Shruti Haasan Quits Chennai Story

Shruti Haasan's recent decision to exit Chennai Story has added her name to the list of leading ladies departing from the anticipated international project, leaving fans and the film industry buzzing.

In a recent turn of events, Shruti Haasan has officially exited the international romantic comedy film Chennai Story, directed by Philip John. This development follows the earlier departure of Samantha Ruth Prabhu from the project, making Shruti the second leading lady to step down from this anticipated India-UK collaboration.

Chennai Story, which had just kicked off its first schedule with Shruti, has been in the spotlight for its novel premise adapted from Timeri N. Murari’s The Arrangements of Love. The film tells the intriguing tale of Anu, a Tamil bisexual detective, who embarks on a journey to help a Welsh-Tamil man find his father. Actor Viveik Kalra was cast opposite Shruti, setting the stage for what promised to be a compelling cinematic offering.

However, Pinkvilla reports that Shruti has left the film for reasons yet to be disclosed. “It was very recently Shruti started the first schedule of Chennai Story. However, now she has exited the film for reasons best known to her,” a source informed the publication. This news comes despite Shruti’s earlier expressed excitement about collaborating with director Philip John and telling global stories through international partnerships.

Before this project, Shruti made her Hollywood debut in the 2023 film The Eye alongside Mark Rowley, marking her first English cinema venture. She has also been seen in the blockbuster Salaar Part 1: Ceasefire with Prabhas, which grossed nearly Rs 500 crore worldwide. Additionally, Shruti recently ventured into music with her video Inimel, featuring director Lokesh Kanagaraj in an on-screen role and lyrics by her father, legendary actor Kamal Haasan.

As for her future projects, Shruti Haasan is set to star in Dacoit alongside Adivi Sesh and is rumored to be in talks for a pivotal role in Yash’s highly anticipated film Toxic. With her exit from Chennai Story, fans are left wondering about the film’s direction and who might fill the void left by both Shruti Haasan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu.

Chennai Story’s journey through casting challenges underscores the complexities of film production and the evolving nature of cinematic storytelling. As the film industry eagerly awaits further updates on the project, Shruti Haasan’s diverse portfolio of upcoming projects continues to excite audiences worldwide.
