Siddharth Questions Audience Attitudes, Chithha Was Shunned While Same People Embraced Ranbir’s Animal

In an insightful discussion, Siddharth questions the starkly different audience reactions to his film Chithha, which confronts child abuse, versus the warm reception of Animal, spotlighting a significant discourse on cinematic content and societal attitudes.

In the latest buzz that’s got everyone talking in the film industry, Siddharth, the South Indian actor-producer known for his unique film choices and strong opinions, is in the limelight not just for his personal life but also for his straightforward views on recent films. Hot on the heels of his engagement news with the stunning actress Aditi Rao Hydari, Siddharth stirred the pot with his indirect take on Ranbir Kapoor’s 2023 blockbuster, Animal, while discussing the reception of his own movie, Chithha, a moving story that deals with the tough issue of child sexual abuse.

At an event, Siddharth opened up about the different reactions to his latest movie, Chithha. He noticed something interesting – while no woman has said they found his film too upsetting to watch, quite a few men admitted they couldn’t bring themselves to see it. Yet, these same men had no problem watching Animal, known as Mirugam in Tamil, despite its violent content and the controversies surrounding it. Siddharth pointed out that the real issue for these men was not that the film was upsetting, but it made them feel “shame and guilt.” He’s hopeful that this attitude will start to change soon.

Siddharth also talked about the struggle he faced in getting his film Chithha shown in theaters, especially the Telugu version. Despite getting thumbs-up from top distributors and the producers of the hit movie KGF, finding screens for his film was tough. Many doubted whether people would be interested in a Siddharth movie, to which he confidently replied, “If I made a good film, people would come to see it.” This challenge highlights the obstacles that independent films face in getting the same recognition as big commercial hits, showing the need for a more open and supportive approach to movie distribution.

Chithha, produced by Siddharth’s own company Etaki Entertainment and directed by SU Arun Kumar, proves Siddharth’s dedication to making films that start conversations and challenge the status quo. Featuring Nimisha Sajayan and baby Sahasra Sree, the film is a key part of Siddharth’s work, marked by its bravery in tackling difficult subjects.

As Siddharth moves through both the happy moments of his personal life and the challenges of his professional life, his engagement to Aditi Rao Hydari and his candid opinions on the film industry show him as an artist who’s not afraid to stand up for what he believes in. In a world where box office numbers often drown out the importance of a film’s message, Siddharth’s voice is a refreshing call for cinema to be more than just entertainment but a reflection of society’s changing values.
