In a significant move to quash swirling rumors about his political ambitions, Bollywood icon Sanjay Dutt has officially stated he is not planning to join the political fray or contest in the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Sanju Baba took to social media to lay to rest the speculation that had been making rounds.
“I would like to put all rumours about me joining politics to rest. I am not joining any party or contesting elections. If I do decide to step into the political arena, then I will be the first one to announce it,” Dutt expressed, urging the public to disregard the circulating news about his supposed political debut.
This clarification comes against the backdrop of reports suggesting Dutt’s potential candidacy as a Congress representative from Haryana’s Karnal seat. Having a lineage deeply rooted in both Bollywood and Indian politics, with his mother, late Nargis Dutt, being a Rajya Sabha MP, and his father, late Sunil Dutt, a five-time Congress MP and a minister in the UPA government, the rumors had seemed plausible to many.
However, Dutt, who completed a five-year sentence in 2016 for illegal possession of weapons linked to the 1993 Bombay blasts, has affirmed his current focus remains outside the political sphere. His previous foray into politics included a stint with the Samajwadi Party in 2009 and rumored affiliations in 2019, which he had also denied.
Sanjay Dutt’s film career continues to flourish, with his recent role in the Tamil film Leo, where he portrayed a gangster with dark undertones.
