In an interview, actress Saiyami Kher opened up about her experiences in the film industry and her upcoming movie ‘Ghoomer’. Kher revealed that when she first started out, she was advised to get a lip job and nose job done – something which she found unacceptable. She felt immense pressure placed on her when she first entered Bollywood. People close to her urged her to make physical alterations such as getting a lip and nose job done in order to fit the ‘ideal’ look within the film industry.
Kher refused these suggestions, saying “Why?” People should not be forced into changing their looks for any reason; everyone should feel empowered to appear natural if they so choose.
“It’s like the society you’re living in is cooperating and accepting the way you are, but you don’t fit the norms set by the industry. These norms really didn’t bother me, but I hope they completely disappear from our industry. We need to accept diversity in showbiz,” said Kher.
Kher’s latest project is a co-starring role in R Balki’s ‘Ghoomer’, which also stars Angad Bedi, Shabana Azmi and Abhishek Bachchan. The movie tells a triumphant story of a paraplegic sportsperson who excels as a cricketer under the guidance of her coach. This inspiring tale of coming out on top despite all odds is one that everyone can relate to, especially those with similar hardships or struggles in life.
Saiyami Kher has shown us that beauty standards set by society or industry can be challenged without compromising one’s values or beliefs. With this new venture, we see yet another example of her determination to break stereotypes and forge ahead with confidence while staying true to herself.
