The Kannada film industry is abuzz with the news of Samarjit Lankesh’s upcoming debut. Being the grandson of the eminent Kannada writer and veteran journalist, P Lankesh, and the son of noted director Indrajit Lankesh, expectations are high. However, what has caught everyone’s attention is the title of the movie – “Gauri”.
The title “Gauri” immediately evokes memories of journalist Gauri Lankesh, Indrajit’s sister, who was tragically assassinated in 2017. This association has led to speculations about whether the film touches upon themes related to her life or the circumstances surrounding her untimely death.
Speaking to ‘Vijaya Karnataka’ web, Indrajit Lankesh shared that the film carries a strong social message. While he acknowledged the memories the title evokes of his late sister, he remained tight-lipped about the reasons for choosing this particular title. He teased that the true significance of the title would be unveiled only in theaters.
The film’s Muhurta ceremony is set to take place at the Big Ganapati Temple in Bangalore on August 31. Notable guests will include Srisree Dr. Nirmalanandanath Swamiji of Adichunchanagiri Mahasansthan Math and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. Indrajit promises to reveal more details about the film on this day.
Co-starring with Samarjith is actress Sanya Iyer, known for the serial ‘Putta Gauri Mundash’ and her stint in the ‘Bigg Boss’ house. The film will feature songs composed by Jessygift and Chandan Shetty, with AJ Shetty handling cinematography. The dialogues are penned by BA Madhu, Rajasekhar, and Masti, while K Kalyan, V Nagendra Prasad, and Kaviraj are responsible for the lyrical content of the songs.
While audiences eagerly await more information on “Gauri”, the film’s title remains a talking point, cementing the legacy and impact of journalist Gauri Lankesh on the public consciousness.
